If you used the Desktop program the only copies of your return is on your computer and any backups you made. You should have saved your return as a pdf file. If you don’t have the pdf you should have the tax data file ending in .tax2021. Run the 2021 Home & Business program and open your return. Go up to File - Open.
The .tax files should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax2021 or .tax. If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2023". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.
Why do you need to resubmit it? Did it reject and didn’t get filed? Or were you supposed to print and mail it?
Thanks so much. I found the file. I'm not sure why it didn't go through. I used TurboTax efile. I'll print it out and resubmit/mail it. Thanks again for helpful & quick reply.
You efiled and it didn’t get Accepted? Maybe you didn’t go all the way to the end and hit the Transmit Returns Now button. Did you also do a state return? Then that wasn’t filed either. Did you have a Refund or tax due? You never noticed you didn’t get the refund or a tax due wasn’t paid?
It may be too late to check back through your emails. When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. And check your spam folder for them.
You may be able to check the filing status in the program.
Open your return and go up to menu item
File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status
If you efiled, In the PDF of your TurboTax return, the last page of the federal return should be an "electronic postmark" that shows your name, Social Security number, the date and time that you e-filed the return, and the date that the IRS accepted it.
