I received an email from TurboTax April 29th stating I need to amend my return. Here is my situation:
-Married Filing Jointly , 1 dependent
-Only I got unemployment
-We filed in February, received refund in February before the $10,200 unemployment tax break
I researched pretty diligently and followed the steps to amend my return. I actually followed a link in this community to the instructions to efile an amended return. I went through amending my return, and it shows I'll be receiving an additional $2700. However when I downloaded the PDF of my 2020 taxes after amending, the first page is instructions on how to mail it in. Additionally, on the main page when I log into TT, it is still showing my first tax refund amount and the efile status for February.
I'm finding conflicting information ALL OVER TT! One article said to download my tax PDF and if it said UCE on a certain line of my Schedule 1 with a negative amount, I didn't need to amend. Well it does say that... but on my amended pdf! I followed the steps to efile an amended 2020 return, and my PDF shows the changes and includes the 1040x... but have not received anything confirming it was efiled!
Someone PLEASE help me figure put how to get this efiled! TT never calls, I've scheduled 6 seperate calls this week with a wait time of 5 minutes and they don't call! I even tried an alternate #!
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
if you e-File an amended return you will get an ACCEPTED message just as you did when you e-Filed 1040.
if UCE is the only change on your return, don't submit it because IRS is doing it for you as fast as possible.
even if it is not, it is better to wait until IRS does what it is going to do.
you only get one 1040-X e-File, don't waste it.
if you are married, expect a refund sometime in the summer.
That's still faster than an amended return would take.
