Hello all, I was wondering if there was a status update on when the IRS is going to start sending out the Amended Federal Tax Returns?

My amended federal tax return was accepted by the IRS on 04/25/2021. I have not received anything and was told August at the latest. I am confused as to when these are going to start being shipped out.

Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return.  During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six months or more for many amended returns.  Do not expect quick results from amending.  When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check.  They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns.  You can watch for information here:

many amended returns (mine included) filed in April were completed in August (8/20/2021).

The checks have not gone out.

The US Treasury ran out of money.
