I'm having problems creating an amended return for 2022. The instructions to amend a 2022 return that was already filed do not match the desktop software.
Here are the instructions. (IMAGE 1)
When I open the 2022 software, I have these choices:
IF I go down the path to "Amend a return after it was filed and accepted by the IRS", it asks for the changes and collects information, but it never puts in the original 2022 return information. There is no place I can find to load the original return. I get a seemingly brain-dead document that looks like below. No name or information. No numbers for the original filed year. And I think the calculations must be wrong, because it assumes I'm in a 0 income tax bracket.
IF I select "Open a different return", I can load my 2022 tax return, but there there is no option that I can find to amend it as the instructions say. (See below).
So what is it I'm supposed to do? What is it I'm not doing right?
(I'm about ready to give up and just do it by hand.)

I helped someone with the same problem but it was awhile ago and I don't think I can find that one. But try this.
First Open your return and go up to menu item
File>electronic Filing>Check Electronic Filing Status
Then save your return. Then close and reopen the program. Then update the program before you open your return, go up to Online->Check for Updates.
And before you amend you should have saved a copy of your file so you have the original. Go up to File->Save As and give it another name.
Then Amend is under Federal Taxes Tab or Personal (Home & Business)

Other Tax Forms

Thank you @VolvoGirl That seems to have worked. I'd have never figured that out!!!
Do you know if I can file this electronically, or must it be paper?
Thank you.
Sorry you have to print and mail it.
Thanks for confirming. I read that in another post about a different year, but it seems pretty clear when I get to the file stage that paper is the way.
Thanks again @VolvoGirl . You've been so very helpful.
