Finding 2018 TT data

Hello-

I suffered a massive data loss that took out both my TT file and the .PDF I save it as for printing. Consequently, all I have is a paper copy of my 2018 return. I have, apparently, made every mistake possible is preserving my tax info, as I cannot find it among my local backups not on the cloud in my OneDrive or Gdrive accounts. I have two issues that require the numbers from last year's return: an ongoing capital gains loss that allows me a deduction of $3,000 from an original loss of $90k decades ago, and the income, expenses and valuation of rental property I own. In the past, this data was imported each year for my deductions and just carried forward. Without the data file or the PDF, I have only the printout of my 1040, Sched. D, & Sched. E for the CG loss and rental figures. How best to proceed? I feel at a loss in preparing my 2019 return with only these forms to work from. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

If you used desktop software downloaded/installed from a CD to your own computer, then the tax files are stored locally on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.  They are not stored online.  If you cannot recover them due to a hard drive failure, etc. you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $50, an actual copy of the return.

Contact your state for copies of previous state returns.

So, when you say "transcript," do you mean a hard copy of the return? If so, I have a PDF copy, which apparently can be imported into TT Premier, as it prompted me for one, ot the TT 2018 file. If all I need is a .PDF file, then I can scan my hard copy into one and import that, correct? Thanks.

Finding 2018 TT data

So I created an account on the IRS site and was able to download the transcript (thanks for the links) of my data (and several other documents), but nothing that appears to be able to import into TT. I found a copy of the PDF created by TT when I filed, so I'm hoping I can import it into the 2019 Premier edition. Will report back if I have any joy.
