No, from the information you've given, your federal return has been changed after you filed but before you selected "amend" so your federal return won't amend properly. The IRS will need to see the change from your original return to your amended return. Since your refund changed, once the Form 1040-X Amended Return is ready, you'll need to go back into TurboTax and remove the 1099 form from your return, then select amend and enter the 1099 form.
I've tried doing just that but it won't let me make any changes at all now that it's been submitted. And amend does t work because the forms aren't ready yet. So you're saying it will let me make that change, save, then amend when the form is ready?
to resume work on a return turbotax thinks is finished (in this case, undo)
use the bizarre command trick "Add a State".
This should work even if you did e-File it.
