i filed my taxes for 2020, i received my state tax already, but i have not the federal, i went into the website and the irs does not have any record of my 2020 federal filing, do i need to refile?
No, do not refile. The IRS is seriously backlogged because of all the extra stimulus filings, as well as a few million unprocessed 2019 returns left over from the COVID shutdown. In addition, the Where's My Refund site has been erratic and unreliable. But if TT told you the IRS Accepted your filing for processing, then the government has it. (Approved is a later step, but TT receives no further updates once Accepted.) Calling the IRS will not help, and the IRS has implored taxpayers not to call them. Lots of other folks are still waiting, so please continue to be patient. Also see:
Do not attempt to re-file. Your return has been accepted or you would not have received the state refund. The IRS is struggling to keep up with the volume of work it is receiving.
The IRS says that it will issue 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days. However, if:
- You have e-filed your 2020 Federal tax return,
- You are claiming a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return, and
- Your tax return has been accepted by the IRS.
We suspect that the IRS will scrutinize stimulus payments that were issued against the tax returns that claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
We do not know how much delay that the IRS will incur in such cases.
IRS live phone assistance is extremely limited at this time. For stimulus payment questions, call 800-919-9835.
For refund questions call 800-829-1040.
