Error Printing from a Mac

Hello!  I have E-Filed Federal and State returns.  I am trying to print a city return to send manually.

I have saved everything as a PDF.  I cannot print the PDF.  I have tried printing only the pages needed for the city return from the saved PDF, same error.  I have let it go and tried only printing the "Print and Mail These Forms to the Government".  Same error.

Note that this Mac does not have Microsoft Word installed.   I have tried printing the PDF from a different Mac that has Word installed.  I get the same error from that computer.  I've tried converting the PDF to Word on that computer.  The result is garbage.  I've tried printing from Preview and from Adobe Acrobat.  Same error.

I have no issues printing other documents.  This is not a printer issue.

A few pages are printed and printing stops with the following error:

ERROR: undefined

OFFENDING COMMAND:  Sans

STACK:

/PSCSKF+*Microsoft

/FontName

-savelevel-

Microsoft Word is not needed to print a TurboTax PDF.   I know you're using a Mac, but most people using the Windows version print from within Adobe Reader (or other PDF reader.)   I don't use a Mac, so I can't address printing in a Mac.   I don't know what PDF viewer you are using in a Mac.

In any case, I'm commenting here, only to bump the thread a bit, since no one has responded in the last couple of days.    Perhaps a Mac user will see the thread title and comment.

Please update here if you continue to experience the error.

It's possible to print your actual city return and then use the TurboTax city return to complete it. Also, you do have time to wait to see if any update changes the printing.

Thanks for the bump!  I only mentioned Microsoft Word since it looked like it might be a Microsoft Sans font that was missing.  I did try to print using many different programs including Adobe Reader,  Adobe Acrobat, Preview, etc.

I haven't checked for any program updates since I posted.  I'll try that later today.  But I'm not holding my breath.

I just installed the latest updates (as of 3/4/2026) and continue to see the exact same problem.

I spent hours working around the city return problem.  My problem now is that I normally print my entire return for my records, and am unable to do that.

When you downloaded, did you download the ENTIRE return at one time?  If not, try doing that and when you go to print, select the pages for the local return to print. Which city are you trying to print?

Thanks for the reply.

The answer is both.  My current issue is that I am trying to print a copy of my entire return for my records.  It will not print.

Since I e-filed the Federal and State, I skipped the printing issue and went on to trying to just print the city return pages that I needed to mail in.  I still got the same printing error for those eight or ten pages.  I wound up converting the PDF pages of the city return to TIFF files and printing just the city return pages -- as TIFF images.

I still am unable to print my entire return for my records.  I have saved it as a PDF.  That PDF will not print.

What error are you getting when trying to print your PDF file?  Here's more info on printing a PDF for Mac.

I had some issues with printing and PDFs for Mac earlier in the season, particularly for California. Today I am able to print. Make sure you have all TurboTax updates installed.

The "ERROR: undefined OFFENDING COMMAND: Sans" message in TurboTax is a PostScript font error occurring during the print process. It has been reported in different forums when using the TurboTax Desktop version on macOS. It signifies that the printer cannot interpret a specific font (likely a "Sans-Serif" variant) being sent by the software.

A suggestion found in an Apple discussion group: Install the latest, free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, open the PDF, and print from there to see if Adobe's more current PDF support resolves this issue. There are certain types of PDF that Apple's Preview application does not handle properly.
