@Rebel_KM You can reach out to the IRS via telephone for more information concerning your refund. The following link has contact information for the IRS: What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

Does the irs approve refunds or update returns on weekends?

@Lauracarpenter603 Even though the IRS issues 9 out of 10 tax refunds within 21 days, it's possible your return may require additional review and take longer to process.

During processing, the government reviews your refund. During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

If they need to make any corrections, they may offset (reduce) your refund. In some cases, the correction might even increase your refund.

Once that part's done, the government approves your refund, which means it's ready to be deposited or sent.  At that point the IRS site will update with a direct deposit date.

Continue to monitor the IRS Where’s My Federal Refund? site for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight. You may also download the IRS2Go app to check your Federal refund status.

Does the irs approve refunds or update returns on weekends?

The IRS website itself says that the "Where's My Refund" tool updates once every 24hrs, usually overnight. Link below.

https://www.irs.gov/about-irs/the-2023-tax-season-has-begun-irs-offers-tips-to-accurately-file-your-....

And then there's this video from TurboTax/Intuit. https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/tax-refund/video-what-days-of-the-week-does-the-irs-deposit-tax...

If you watch the video or read the transcript,

I believe it says the IRS updates your refund status once per week on Wednesdays. And there are 2 days during the week where the send refunds. One day is for direct deposits and the other day is for mailing paper checks.

And if you think that's rather confusing, when you try to Google the question (or anything similar) many pages will say the IRS updates once a day during the week - between 12 A.M. and 6 A.M. in the morning.

I would think the first answer I gave is most reliable, being that it's directly from the IRS website.
