Does it take longer for someone who is self employed to get a refund?

I worked for myself catering for about 3 months then I stopped doing that and started taking care of a few kids for the remainder of the year. My status on wmr was at 1 bar yesterday and upon checking this morning, I have a message that says your tax return is still being processed a refund date will be provided when available. I put everything in correctly and I didn't have that many deductions. All together with both businesses my deductions were near $800. I did self prepared taxes online and don't know why this is happening. I am also an ID theft victim and put in my ip pin correctly. Anyone have any answers that can help?

Does it take longer for someone who is self employed to get a refund?

It should not take longer due to being self-employed. IRS actually just started processing returns (other than a few test ones) on Jan 28th and we are only at Feb. 6th right now.  So it not unusual for people to not have refunds yet. The identify theft and the fact that the PIN might slow things a little bit,(might) but the fact you do have the pin helps dramatically with that. Be patient and check the progress and it will be here in no time.  Wish I could help more, however once it is filed, you have to wait for IRS to process it.

Thanks for your reply, TT MichaelL1. I was only asking because I notice that several people who get the "still processing a refund date will be provided when available" message have had to wait for several days or even months. I do have EIC and ACTC as well. I will continue to check but if it ever changes, it will probably be around the last week in this month. I'm hoping for the best. Thanks again.

I’ve been wondering the same. I filed on the 27th of January and have yet to receive my refund or refund date. I am self employed as well (my first year) but I do not have any EIC or child credits. I have never had my taxes take so long.

Does it take longer for someone who is self employed to get a refund?

It does matter if you are self employed and that is why it is taking longer. They (IRS) are taking self employed and doing it manually which is why it is taking longer. Sill waiting on mine. It can take up to June to get it.

I was told it would take up until June 11th to find out if it was approved or not, but to check 2-3 times a week to see if it approved sooner. When I log in now, it says my information is incorrect! Jeez....

I'm still waiting also. Just did ID verify on Friday. Why would your info be incorrect? I'm guessing we are both up a creek without padddles. It's taking way too long.
