Do I need to mail check with 1040-V

While filing my 2025 taxes I forgot I had rolled over my 401k from older employer to new employer, on the 1099-R box 2a is blank and box 7 has distribution code G. 

 

When I e-filed my original taxes I opted to pay what I owe from my bank account but the payment has not yet posted. When I e-filed the amended return no additional amount was due but turbo tax still provided me a 1040-V with instructions to mail with a check for the full amount due.

 

Did amending the return cancel the original payment and as a result the 1040-V will need sent with check, or will the payment from bank account on the original e-file still go through?

Do I need to mail check with 1040-V

Amending your return does not affect the payment you set up on your original return.  Your amended return shows a balance because you most not have entered that you had paid the balance with the original return.  

 

When you set up a payment yo be taken from your account, you can select a date you did not then the program will set the payment to come out on April 15.  You can check your TurboTax (TTLC) scheduled payment date:

 

  1. Log into your account
  2. Select Add a State to open the return
  3. Go to Tax Tools
  4. Print Center to view your tax return/worksheets

The payment date is listed on the Federal Information Worksheet, or defaults to April 15th if none was chosen.
