Do I need to file an amended return for 2022 if I was approved for/received SS Disability income with an initial "retro" payment in 2023 that was partially for 2022?

The $$ "allocated" for 2022 was over $10k.

No, you do not amend the 2022 tax return.

When you enter the SSA-1099 on your 2023 tax return there will be a follow-up question about receiving a lump sum payment in 2023, answer Yes to the question and complete the information requested.

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button
