To amend the Detroit Return, return to your TurboTax program, state interview. When prompted about the city information, there will be an opportunity to select that it needs to be amended.
The Michigan and Detroit returns can be electronically amended if the originals were e-filed. Be sure to verify how the original returns were submitted in the File section of the program. Only amend if the state and city have actually been mailed or e-filed.

- If an amended is needed and the state and city have been mailed or e-filed, then for the CD/Download, in the Step-by-Step interview, follow these steps to amend Detroit:
- Select STATE TAXES
- Run through the state interview again until you see Change a Previous Detroit Return.
- Select I'd like to amend my 2020 Detroit return.
- Select Continue.
- Follow the prompts to enter the explanation for the amendment.
To see the changes, go to Forms Mode and scroll to Form 5119 under Michigan Individual. Click to open the form and see the check box marked in the upper right corner for the amendment.
