Question

Delay

I e filed my taxes and they were accepted on February 15. I did claim dependents as well. My refund status on the IRS website  is still saying processing. The state refund was taken for a debt. But my federal hasn’t been deposited or given a date for the deposit, it’s been 24 days since accepted. Is it normal for an offset to delay refund or should I call the IRS?

Yes. Liens, back taxes or refund offsets delay your refund. If the IRS discovered you have delinquent debts, they're legally required to deduct those amounts from your refund. You'll receive a notice about the offset.

The contact number for the IRS for individuals is 800-829-1040.
