I used TurboTax last year (2023 taxes) and realized I made a $4000 + mistake! For income I plugged in a 1099-R instead of (correctly) a CSA-1099-R. I received a roughly $1000 return, but when I go back and plug in the CORRECT CSA-1099-R form I should have received a return of over $6000!
The CSA-1099-R is for Civil Service pension, and I did my research (a year too late), and determined I plugged in the incorrect "1099". In real small letters on the "1099" it says "CSA" and I originally overlooked that.
How do I go back and correct this? File an amendment? I see I have that option when I launch TT, but I've never done this and not sure what to expect. OR should I go to an "official" tax preparer and have them go over it?
Thanks,
TB2

Yes, we can help you amend your CSA 1099-R.
You will be working with the Desktop version of TurboTax to post the amendment.
After I correct it, do I simply re-submit it back to the IRS the same way I originally submitted it? This is a tax return that was placed early last year and has already been filed and the return received.
Can I expect them to reimburse me the amount I mis-reported?
Thanks!

??
You'll need to print, sign, and mail the tax return. It can't be e-filed through TurboTax. The IRS will issue any additional refund that's due to you based on the amendment.
Thank you SO much for the reply. This is my first time to amend a tax return and wasn't sure what to expect. I went through it on TT, and it was a breeze AND it explained what to do.
Thanks again,
