Cannot open Tax return

I've complete my taxes online and they're accepted, but I cannot open the return to print it off.  The print/download option does not give me a window to print anything off, and I cannot open the tax file that's downloaded.  None of the answers here have helped

Cannot open Tax return

Sign onto your TurboTax online account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If the PDF is not complete or it is not available, then follow this procedure -

Scroll down and click on Add a State.  This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.

SOLVED! SOLUTION FOUND!

Had trouble opening prior return PDF?

When you click Open file does it open in Wordpad and looks unreadable?

The reason is because you do not have a PDF viewer software installed on your computer to enable proper file viewing.

SOLUTION:

1.google , adobe acrobat pdf program and go to page

2.download adobe acrobat pdf program

3. open adobe acrobat program installer file and install program

4. go back to the downloads folder and find your turbo tax return file.

5. right click on turbo tax return file and select "open with" , select adobe acrobat program.

6. file should open and now be viewable.

You can now save the file to your computer.

Congratulations! Hope this helps

@gary k walters  Are you using TurboTax Online or the download version? Also, have you already filed or are you still working on your tax return?

Cannot open Tax return

In spite of the TurboTax statements that we can download our returns 24/7, the downloads are illegible, 30+ pages of symbols.  My computer asks what software I need to open the file, and I don't know what to choose.  Tried several, but they produce illegible gibberish.

Cannot open Tax return

I am using Turbo Tax online; in "Tax Home", at the bottom of the page, is a link to open the ".tax" file for my return.    When I download the file, and then try to open it, my computer doesn't recognize the file and sends me to the Microsoft store to look for a program.   If this is a turbo tax file, why doesn't it open?    I called a support person on this and she said I had to have the CD version in order to open this file.  If that is the case, WHY do you even put it up in Turbo Tax Online for customers to download, if they can't then open the file using Turbo Tax Online?   Or, if it is only able to be opened using the CD version, why is there not an explanation below the link warning users of just that?

That is precisely why that .tax file is there and that is to transfer your online account to a desktop version of Turbo Tax. That is why it's there. in the meantime If you want to download and print your return, you will choose download/print return. That is available if you have paid for your Turbo Tax product.

You said,  "That is precisely why that .tax file is there and that is to transfer your online account to a desktop version of Turbo Tax."

Okay - so the oh-so-obvious question that is begged here is THIS:  Why isn't there an ever-so-helpful sentence below the link "Download .tax file" that says JUST THAT, eg, "You must have a desktop version of Turbo-Tax in order to view this file".    Does Intuit grasp that its customers don't intuit (pun intended) that the ".tax" file can only be opened with a desktop version of TurboTax?   Just what are they thinking when they put stuff up like this - or are they not thinking at all?

Angry?  You bet I am:   You have no idea how many hours I spent on the phone last night with a turgidly obtuse customer support person last night trying to resolve this question, which only raises larger questions about TurboTax itself, and whether anyone in this giant corporation is actually minding the store.   It's not that hard to go through your program and ask, "Will customers understand this?" and "Should we explain this?"
