Your refund is based on a variety of factors, including how much tax you had withheld from your income during the year, your filing status and whether you are eligible for any refundable credits. There is nothing you can do now to change any of those for 2024. If you are entering all of your information correctly and completely, then your refund is a small one this time. Is any of your income from working a W-2 job from which tax was withheld?
You say you have "one dependent that is not blood related"-----but have provided no other details. If your dependent is not related to you, then you might only be getting the $500 credit for other dependents --which is not a refundable credit; it can reduce tax you owe. Provide some details about the dependent you are referring to.
As for the 1099---you do not say what kind of 1099 it is. There are over a dozen kinds of 1099's. If it is a 1099NEC for self-employment then you owe self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.
