Can I go back and make modifications after generating a mail-in copy of 1040? I found a mistake but cannot find a way to go back and change the information filled before

Yes, if you have not mailed it yet. Just destroy the first copy and print a new one with the changes.

To get back, you might have to "add a state", but don't actually download a new state.
