While it’s possible it’s preferable to do it where you prepared the original return. You would have to completely and accurately reproduce your return in TurboTax.
Can you tell me how to do it? I am a professional tax preparer so re-doing it is no problem. I used to work for Jackson Hewitt but I left in April 2024. So I don't want them to amend it, I left on not so good terms. Can I amend it online with Turbo Tax? Can I have an expert do it? If I need to buy software, what is the specific name of it: Deluxe, Home and Business, etc.
TurboTax Online for 2023 will only be available for another two weeks. After October 15 you will not be able to use TurboTax Online. You could still buy the downloaded TurboTax software and use that. You would have to install it on your own Windows or Mac computer. Which version you should buy depends on what's in your tax return. All the download versions have all of the forms. The difference is in the amount of detail, guidance, and help in the question-and-answer interview.
It's not clear whether you are amending your own tax return or a client's return. You cannot use TurboTax for a client's return.
I am amending my own tax return. I got a 1098-T that I did not put in my original return. It was sent to my physical address instead of my PO Box so I did not get it in time. I don't check my mailbox at the apartment complex I live in very often. I have SSA-1099, W-2 and 1098-T for forms. Do you know which software I should buy? My PC does not have a disk drive. So can I buy the software and download it to use? I saw something about a 1040-X form?
TurboTax Deluxe will do everything you need. You can buy a download at the following link.
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/deluxe.jsp
Form 1040-X is the amended return. All versions of TurboTax include it. When you say that you are amending, TurboTax will automatically create Form 1040-X.
To amend a return you did somewhere else or you don't have the original .tax file, you would first have to fill out Turbo Tax like you are doing the original return and pay for it. You have to recreate the actual wrong original return. Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed. Then you can amend it.
For the current year you can use the online version by first recreating the original return exactly as filed. Then pay the fees and say to mail it and print it out so it think you filed it. Then when it matches every line you can amend. How to Amend the current year

Or you can buy the CD/Download Desktop programs here,
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download
Prepare an original return identical to the return you filed, even if it was incorrect. Tell the program you will file by mail, then print a copy of the return so the program thinks the return is "filed." Save, quit, and re-open the file, and click the button to amend.
