If you haven't filed the state return yet, don't.
FIX the state return, then file it.
If you need to get back into your return, select "Add a State" to reopen the return, then make the adjustment.
It doesn't allow me to fix the state return. That's what I'm trying to find out. How do I fix the state withholding if it doesn't allow me to change it? It's correct under where you put in the W-2, and it is the correct amount under the Federal return, but when you get to the State part, the state withholding is doubled. I even tried to take the state out and put it back in, but that didn't work.
Since both re-visiting Form W-2 and deleting/re-adding the state did not work, check what has been entered in the state taxes reported in Deductions & Credits.
To do this in TurboTax, follow these steps:
If you e-File that return, NJ will notice an error and send you your correct smaller refund.
TurboTax has lots of problems this year.
I can't use it because it calculates the wrong taxable amount for my situation.
It does not allow you to change the State amount on the State taxes. If it was that easy, I wouldn't be posting here.
