Amending tax return for 2023

I am trying to amend tax returns for prior years. For 2021 and 2022, it was no problem -- TurboTax asked me as soon as I opened the return if I wished to amend, and prepared a 1040X and applicable state returns for each year. (Apparently it doesn't e-file, but whatever, I can send it in.) TurboTax for 2023 isn't doing the same thing. It's only giving me options to edit the existing return, which has already been filed; nothing about amending. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I assume you are using the Desktop program?    If you don't see a button for Need to Amend a Filed Return? on your home screen then you can get to it here. Go to:
Federal Taxes -or- Personal (for H&B)
Other Tax Situations
last section, Other Tax Forms
Amend A Return - Click the Start or Update button

How did you file the original return? Did you efile or mail it? You first might have to tell the program it was filed. If you efiled you have to check the filing status inside the program. Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

Starting in 2023, they moved the "Amend a Return" button way down in the bottom left corner, and it may be out of view.  Like you, I at first didn't see it.  I had to scroll way down the screen to make it appear. See image below.

NOTE:  Do not make any changes in your return until the Amend process instructs you to do so.  Also, it's a good idea to first make a backup of the original *.taxYYYY data file and PDF  before amending, and archive them somewhere safe and secure.   Then, if something goes haywire during the amending process, you still have the original data file and PDF.  Be sure it has a different file name, such as "2023taxreturn_original" (or whatever you choose), so it doesn't get mixed up with the amended return's data file.

Thank you! I see that screen now, but it doesn't give me any option to stop there. I open the program and it shows the screen in the background while "Opening your return" shows; then it goes straight to the return. Do you know how to stop on that screen?

... ah, I think I found the answer. File > Open Tax Return seemed to do the trick.
