Hello. I would like to know how to add an additional 1098 form after my return has been filed and accepted. Please email me with the reply at [email address removed]. Thank you.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
No one here can email you. If you used TurboTax Online, simply log in to your account and select “Amend a return that was filed and accepted.” If you used our CD/download product, sign back into your return and select “Amend a filed return.” You must file a separate Form 1040-X for each tax return you are amending.
Once you start the amendment you will be able to add your additional 1098 form. If your Federal amendment affects your State return, then you will also have to amend your State return.

when I am amending my 2021 return to include some interest income that got left out, should the amount I enter be the total corrected amount of interest, or should it be only the difference between the correct amount and what I entered on my original return? It's unclear in the Easy Step menu what I'm supposed to enter, and when I look at the "Forms" view of the 1040X the "Original Return" column is all zeroes. I can't tell if it gets populated automatically somewhere in the process.
It would only be the difference between the correct amount and what you entered on the original return.
OK, so I entered only the differences as you indicated. Now the form is showing $0 tax due even though I have $167 in additional income, because it is entering a standard deduction of $27,800 even though it's an amended return. I can't override this.
Also, error messages keep popping up that the SSN doesn't match the SSN on the information worksheet. I have now spent hours trying to do a simple amendment for two items. I'm probably just going to fill out a 1040X manually, write a check, and mail it to the IRS. I've used TT for years and it's frustrating that amending a return can be this complicated.
Not your fault, I know.

You could have simply edited the original interest entry you made to report the correct amount, rather than make a new entry to record the difference. It is possible that the standard deduction should have been on the original return.
You can clear the amended return and start it over, that may resolve your issues. You will see an option for that on your left menu bar. It seems like you don't have to change much so it shouldn't take that long to do it over.
Thomas:
My original return had already been filed. And the first expert who gave me advice said to just enter the changes to the original numbers. So yes, it should all have been "simply" easier to do this than it is. And it took me all of 5 minutes to use the 1040X from the IRS website.
Thanks so much .
