Please explain when I follow the steps to amend:1) the federal tax doesn't zero out? and 2) there are additional adjustments than the one I input to correct?

When you follow the steps as detailed in How do I amend my federal tax return for this year, your refund meter should go to zero. First, make sure you are selecting the box saying you are amending a return that has already been filed when completing the screens in the initial interview process. If it still does not go to zero, you will need to review your original return as filed to the amounts showing up in TurboTax, and then make sure the amounts in the TurboTax program match the filed return before proceeding. This may involve making manual adjustments to your numbers to match the original return as filed.
Be sure to save that restored file to reflect that it is as originally filed and save a pdf version so you have it available for reference as you proceed with the amended return.
