Amending 2022 tax return

Hello everyone,

I used TurboTax Desktop Mac to file my tax return on 2022. From everything I see on the FAQs, it seems that I should be able to e-file an amended return from the same software, however, when I go through the steps, and submit to e-file, I get the message:

E-filing is Closed for the Season, the software seems to think that e-filing closed for the tax season on October 16, 2023.

Does anyone know if perhaps there is a new version of software that I need for it to know that e-filing tax season is again open?

E-filing of a 2022 tax return using TurboTax closed at the end of October 2023.  The 2022 amended tax return can only be printed and mailed.

In the File section of the program you need to select Print and mail not E-file

This article clearly says anything after 2019 can be e-filed:

So I'm trying to figure out how to do it. Seems 2022 software is outdated with dates, I can go through all the screens to e-file, the problem is it doesn't accept a signature date of 2024. Clearly it's a flaw on the software.

@yungish Yes, the IRS will accept an e-filed tax return if the original tax return was e-filed.

But TurboTax will not e-file a prior tax year amended return.

As stated in the link you provided -

Not all tax software providers support electronically filing amended returns for other than the current year. If not then you will need to file your amended on paper and mail it to the IRS.

Note this statement-

 However, there is a chance your return cannot be electronically filed. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.
