I accidentally filled under the wrong filing status.when and how can I amend my 2021 tax?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
So my tax return was accepted and they took what they said I owed. However, I have to amend. When I log online to amend - and it states click here to amend the 2021 return - It sends me back to my TAX expert that did my taxes. I messaged them from there. Do I wait for a response? I have no clue what to do? Not having someone physically talk to is frustrating since I don't know what to do? Need help / guidance?
it is too soon. You cannot amend a 2021 return yet. The 1040X you need will not be available until mid to late March. You have to wait. And if you used "Live" then you can get help with amending at that time.
I also just filed my 2021 taxes TODAY and they were already accepted by the IRS today (State is still pending). I need to make a small change (I said my mom could also claim me but when she went to claim me they said I no longer qualify as a dependent) so I know I will get a larger refund. It won't let me amend it even though it was accepted.
@johnlarue2000 That is right. You cannot amend now.

The Form 1040X you need will not be available until mid-March.
I saw this post late and made changes to my e-filed return. When I went to amend, it messed up the numbers and now Im stuck with $0 for both federal and state. I did not file the amended version since I saw this post, what can be done to go back to the original filed numbers?
Did you file using Turbo Tax online or desktop? @RIP3
