Amending 2021 state tax return not working

I am trying to file an amendment for my 2021 California state tax. I downloaded turboTax to my windows machine and prepared my amendment. Everything seemed fine at the beginning and it shows that I'd get $339 refund from the state. However, at the last step, the "continue" button didn't work. Clicking on it did nothing. The page said "We're ready to file your taxes. Great job! You're almost done. Now we'll help you wrap up your 2021 taxes and file your returns".

Did you prepare your original Federal and State returns for 2021 using TurboTax? And, are you also amending your Federal return for 2021? It sounds like the program doesn't recognize that you already filed. You would need to tell TurboTax that you are preparing an amended return, not preparing an original return. The procedures are different.

To prepare a state return within TurboTax if you didn't originally file with TurboTax, you will first need to prepare a federal return as your federal tax information will flow into the needed state forms.

TurboTax doesn't support online amend 2021 tax return. Instead, I had to download a TurboTax to my laptop (Windows). I followed the instructions and amend the federal return of 2021. The change is in federal return, but the effect only shows in state return. The problem is that even though the app (intuit turbotax amend) shows CA Refund is $339, but the amended return Summary says "We don't detect any differences between your original 2021 return and your amended return. if you're sure you need to amend, explain why below." I explained but when reached to the page of "We're ready to file your taxes", and continue button doesn't work.

If you need to amend your federal return in TurboTax Desktop, follow the steps below:

1. Open the TurboTax Desktop software for the year you're amending. For example, you must amend your 2023 return in the 2023 version of TurboTax.
2. Under Need to Amend a Filed Return?, select Amend a Filed Return.
3. Select Amend for the return you need to amend. If the return you need doesn’t appear as an option, select Find a Tax File to find and load the return.
4. On the Do you need to change anything else screen, select Update next to the info you need to change.
5. Continue through the screens, make the changes you need to make, and carefully answer the remaining questions to finish amending your return.
6. Don’t forget to select Save As (or Duplicate on Mac) from the File menu when you save a copy of your amended return. This will preserve the tax return you originally filed. Give the file a different name from the original, like [tax year]_amended_tax_return_Smith.
