Amending 2021 return - signature date?

I am trying to file an amended 2021 return using the desktop version.  Everything looks good, but when I try to transmit, it says my signature date is invalid, and that the date needs to be between 1/1/2022 through 12/31/2022.  Obviously I am trying to file today, 4/7/2023.  Is there anyway around this?  How do I submit electronically?  I would prefer not to submit paper.

You are trying to e-file a return that cannot be e-filed.  Your amended 2021 return has to be filed by mail.  Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.  Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it.  Do not expect quick results from an amended return.

So to clarify - can you ever efile an amended return?  Or can you only do it for a return from the same year (i.e., efile an amended return for the 2022 tax year during the 2023 calendar year)?

A 2022 amended return can be e-filed if the original 2022 return was e-filed.   But e-filing is closed for 2021.   Only some tax professionals with professional tax software can e-file amended returns for earlier years.   It cannot be done using do-it-yourself TurboTax software.
