I amended my 2024 return to correct error in Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Original return resulted in my refund being reduced by $1418 due to not meeting RMD for one of my IRA's. But I met my total RMD for all of my IRA's. Error was due to glitch in TurboTax software.
Amended return showed that I was due a refund of the $1418. But I received a letter from the IRS saying my account was adjusted but that the adjustment did not change my tax or credits. I have not been able to get an explanation from the IRS as to why I did not receive a refund. Any suggestions?

If the IRS did not adjust your tax return, I suggest amending your return to reflect that the entire distribution is an RMD to remove the 25% penalty for not taking the RMD.
Please see this link for guidance on amending your tax return.
your tax or credits did not change but your RMD penalty did.
Did you amendment show a new or deleted 5329 with zero penalty and did you explain that on 1040-X Explanation ?
Yes, my amended return showed a deleted 5329 and I did include an explanation on the 1040-X
My elimination of 5329 tax penalty does appear on 1040-X Line 10.
I have done that and have spoken to 5 or 6 employees and gone into the local IRS office twice and so far have not received a response that make sense. I did speak with a person last week who seemed to have some "snap" and thinks she can resolve the issue. She said to wait 30 days so I am hoping for the best.
