Amended return received date changed

Hey there!

I recently filed a 1040X for my 2018 taxes. I had to mail it in since Efile was not an option for this specific year. The IRS WMAR Tool showed they received it on 3/7/22. Now as we all know it is taking them FOREVER to touch these returns. I recently checked the WMAR tool and it shows a new date of 4/25/22 as received. However, they have not processed it STILL. My concern is that the deadline to amend 2018 is 4/18/22 to receive any refund. The IRS has offset my returns for the last two years to pay this balance from 2018. Now that they have offset 2 years' worth of refunds and the IRS has changed the received date from 3/7/22 to 4/25/22 is this an issue? Will they use this as an excuse to not provide me with the refund I'm owed? I am so confused I just want to know if I still have a shot at a refund ( WHENEVER) that may be.

First the mail room receives the return  and opens it. (03/07) Then it sits in waiting for a person to manually enter the data from return. (04/25). Then the return now needs to go through the computer processing phase.  That’s why there’s two dates. Your receipt date is the date the mailroom receives it. Was it sent certified mail or with proof of receipt?

Yes, it was sent by certified mail but the receipt is in bad shape almost all of the numbers are worn off. 😞 I just don't want the IRS to say it wasn't filed in time to get my refund. Like its not my fault it sat in a mail room for almost two months. I feel like that shouldn't be counted as being filed late. They are so backlogged I would hope they overlook this. They have taken a lot of money the past two years for something that technically isn't even owed to them

Exactly! It is not your fault it sat there.
But the mailroom documents the receive date . You’re good. The fact it took them until 04/25 to

process it is ridiculous, but that’s not what date they’ll be going by to considered it timely filed.

I hope they get it processed quickly for you. It appears they’re working on it behind the scenes. Keep a look out on transcript to get the most accurate  information.
