on the app it says my taxes have been accepted and filed and my newyork state amended form was printed. I did not try to print any form. I am curious as to why it’s telling me this and what to do about my newyork state tax form

It depends.

When going through the interview for state returns, there is a question on many states asking if you want to amend your return.  This box may have been inadvertently checked as it does show up towards the end of the interview process.  Since you filed electronically with the app but were prompted to print the New York amended return, the printed returns are not yet filed.  They are only filed when you physically mail them.  

I recommend following the steps in this link to verify which returns were successfully filed.  

If your state return was only printed and not filed, follow the steps here to get back into the tax return. Be careful not to change anything on the federal but proceed through the state interview screens one more time.  When you get to the screen asking if you want to amend your return, select no.  Proceed through the screens and file your state return as prompted.
