My original federal tax return I owed 799. I forgot to add my IRA contribution. After adding it, I get 2,333 back in my return. How long does it take for the IRS to process it? Also, I don’t need to send 799 if my amended tax return is accepted. Correct

The IRS can take more than four months to process an amendment. Here is a link to the IRS site where you can check your Amended Return Status.

If there’s a refund due to you, the IRS will send you a check once they've processed your amendment. You do not need to send a payment of $799.
