Amend state return

I need to amend NJ state return but Turbotax desktop is generating federal tax return and even if i just try to e-file NJ state and select do not e-file federal return it keeps giving me error that 1040X explanation is missing and not letting me e-file the return. What can i do to just e-file state return?

Did the change you made come from the federal return?   If you want to e-file the state, you will have to e-file the federal.   But if you file by mail, you can opt to only mail the state.
