Amend return 2019

How can I change my 2019 tax return to married filing separately after I did it jointly. My wife and I need to sign the printed 1040 but she can't, she's in the Philippines at the moment and doesn't have a social security number or visa to come to the states yet so it's better if I do it separately. I DO know about the ITIN number but I want to pass all that headache for now and she's never been to the states so I dont think she will get approved.

You can change your filing status from Married Filing Jointly to Married Filing Separate.

If you have not filed your return you change the filing status by:

1. Select My Info in the Black bar on the left side of the screen.
2. The second category on the screen should show Married Filing Jointly, Select Edit on the right side of the screen.
3. At the bottom of the screen you need Select No to the question - 
   "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?"
4. Select Continue at the bottom of the screen.

Thank you sir but Im assuming i need to do this on a PC because I did it on my phones app.

You can make the change on your phone. Locate where you entered your personal information such as Name, Address, and Social Security Number. Changing the filing status would be in the same section.

If you log into TurboTax using the browser instead of the App you can access My Info

1. Log into using www.turbotax.com
2. Sign into your return
3. In the upper left sign of the screen you will see three bars.
4. Tap the three bars
5. Select 2019 taxes
6. Select My Info

From the steps on the first response:

• The second category on the screen should show Married Filing Jointly, Select Edit on the right side of the screen.
• At the bottom of the screen you need Select No to the question - 
  "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?"
• Select Continue at the bottom of the screen.
