Also told I had to send in through mail: question answered over phone!

I also got the message saying that my thing was filed but I still need to mail something in. The thing to mail in was a payment voucher.

This was for an AMENDMENT I made to my taxes

I spoke over the phone with someone and he said that I was getting the message come up because I had originally owed on the taxes.

However, even though I originally owed, I had already paid this digitally, and I did not owe anything extra when I amended it, so he said I DO NOT have to mail anything in, even though the screen pretty explicitly said I did.

Of course always check for yourself personally and your specific circumstances, but this was reassuring to hear because it seemed weird I would have to mail something in.

Yes thats right.  Go by the actual 1040X.  Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund.  If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16.  If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

If you have a tax due, do not send the 1040V.  Just include a check with the 1040X or pay online.    Ignore the 1040V.  That is for the original return or what the original return would have been if it didn’t need correcting.  Don’t pay the amount on the 1040V.  Pay the amount on the actual 1040X line 20.
