2019 didn't file 2018

I'm trying to see how this is going to work out if you will. I didn't file in 2018. I notice while filing 2019 at some point I was ask did I file 2018? I stated no so that I could go ahead get penalized or whatever. I paid taxes throughout the year each pay so I would not have to pay at the end of the year. however, I got a little more after ready to efile. I'm wondering if IRS included 2018 with my 2019. I don't know how this works and hope it can be explained. I was accepted on the 8th and IRS has received my taxes being processed.

You only filed a return for 2019.   You cannot add 2018 income to a 2019 return, so hope you did not try to do that.  No, the IRS will not "include 2018 with 2019."

It is not too late to file a 2018 return

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2018 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2016, 2017, or 2018 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

Thank you so much and no, I did not try to add both W2s 2018 and 2019. I just added 2019 W2s.

2019 didn't file 2018

I did prepare my return using Turbo Tax last year but did not file due to small amount refunded; $56.00. I was under the impression that one need not file if refund is below $600. What should I do now? How can I access the information entered for 2019 through turbo tax?

Thank you in advance

2019 didn't file 2018

You will no longer be able to access the information you entered for your 2019 return online.  TurboTax Online is for current tax year (2020) returns.

However, you can download either:

  • A PDF file of your return, which will just give you the information you entered but you cannot make any changes;  or
  • A .tax file that you can open in the desktop version of 2019 TurboTax.  This will allow you to complete and file your 2019 return.  See this article for help downloading TurboTax for previous years:  Where can I buy old versions of TurboTax?

To access your 2019 return please follow these steps:

  1. Log back in to your TurboTax account.
  2. You should be on the Tax Home screen.  Scroll down to Your Tax Returns & Documents
  3. Click the blue Show icon.
  4. Select 2019.
  5. Select either Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file

NOTE:  Whether you must file a federal income tax return does not depend on the size of your refund.  It depends on your gross income, your filing status, your age, and whether you are a dependent.  For more information on filing requirements, see IRS Pub.501 - Dependents, Standard Deduction, and Filing Information

Do you mean that you believed you could not receive an income tax refund if the amount was less than $600?  Hope you have learned that was not correct.  You could get a refund if it was only a dollar.  Why would you dismiss an amount less than $600?  Going forward, e-file your tax return on time so you can get your refund even if it is for a small amount.  When you neglect to file and then need to purchase software later to do it, it defeats the purpose.
