If I purchase desktop sofware will only be able to use it on a desk top

You can only use it on your own computer.--you can purchase the software for a PC or a Mac. You have to install/download the software. And then you have to print, sign and mail the return to the IRS. It cannot be e-filed.

But yes, you need a computer (Desktop or Laptop) that has the full Windows or Mac operating system on it.
