If the 1099-G is for a state refund, and you did not Itemize on your 2018 tax year return, you don't need to worry about it. Just keep it with your tax file.

If you did itemize, you might need to amend your tax return and claim it as income.

Look at  line 8 of the 2018 1040 do see it itemized, if you did, you would have a schedule A.

I didn't receive a 1099G this year.  I thought I'd lost it so I registered with Maryland Taxes on line service and tried to generate my 1099G only to discovered that there are no records for my SS#.  I'm retired and I received a relatively large state refund last year.  I filed a standard return.   I receive SS benefits and two pensions.  I know things changed last year regarding the pensions.  Do you know of any reason why I wouldn't receive the 1099G?

    thank you,

-id you file as married filing jointly, or as single? If you filed as married filing jointly, the refund usually will be to one social security number on the form, so that is the taxpayer you need to register to see if the 1099-G was generated.

They should have sent you a 1099-G for the state refund. Try calling them or registering with the other social security number if you have it.

If you filed as single and do not have the 1099-G and they do not have your social security information in their system (meaning your number) you should call and speak to someone at the Maryland department of revenue.
