1040x requiring Form 8888 not valid

1040x with amount DUE.  Deceased Spouse.  TurboTax wants me to complete Form 888 for Savings Bonds  that is not valid with Deceased Spouse and Amount DUE.

Yes, If you amend a return that included Form 8888,  you will need to delete Form 8888 to complete your amendment. 

If you are using TurboTax Online:

1. Open your return and  scroll down to Tax Tools on the bottom of the left side menu.
2. Select Tools.
3. Click on Delete a form (third on the list at the bottom of the screen).
4. Find Form 8888 on the list of forms.
5. Click Delete to the right.
6. Confirm your Delete.
7. Click Continue with my return.

If you are using the Desktop version (from a disc or download):

1. Click Forms toward the upper right corner. 
2. Find Form 8888 on the list on the left.
3. Highlight it, then click Delete in the lower left corner of the reading pane.
4. Click on Step by Step in the upper right corner to return to the interview.

Nope.  Followed suggested instructions and still got messages at very end of process before electronic submission:

"We Need to Make one More Check"  followed by screen with message "Form 8888  Refund used for bond Purchase Amt.  Form 8888: Refund Used for Bond Purchase Amt.  Form 8888 cannot be used if the taxpayer of spouse died in the current tax year.  Line 4 amount".  That screen is followed by a number of screens trying to complete the 8888,

No Software solution is apparently available as of 4/9/2023. Technical Support suggests I change my return to a PAPER FILE, not an electronic filing (not a very satisfying resolution). The recommended solution from JulieS may work in theory , but not with the current software.
