I originally filed a federal tax return incorrectly where I owed the IRS ~$5,000. Before realizing that I made a mistake, I made the payment. However, shortly after making the payment, I realized my mistake and had the bank cancel any withdrawals from my account and the payment technically never made it to the IRS (they sent me a letter saying the payment was never processed).
Now I am filing my 1040X, and need to know what to put on Line 16 "Total amount paid with request for extension of time to file, tax paid with original return, and additional tax paid after return was filed". I don't know whether the amount should be $5,000 or if it should be $0 given that the payment never actually went through.

you need someone to answer this question for you ??
Yes.
You do not report an amount paid that was not actually paid. You should leave the line for "tax paid with original return" blank.
If you are using TurboTax to amend, TurboTax makes it difficult to do this (change line 16).
