Question

Why hasn't my Colorado state return been accepted?

Federal filed / accepted on same day. Now, one week later, my Colorado return still shows as pending.

It is completely normal for your Colorado state tax return to remain in a "pending" status for a week or more, even though your federal return was accepted on the same day.

While the IRS usually updates federal e-files to "accepted" within 24 to 48 hours, state tax departments operate on an entirely separate timeline and processing infrastructure.

Colorado state tax returns can stay in a pending status after your federal return is accepted—this is normal and the two returns are processed separately.

Electronically filed Colorado returns can take up to five weeks to be processed, so a one-week pending status is still within the normal window of that timeframe.
