Question

tax return questions

Hello I filed with yall as I do every year, it was rejected for the first time, I amended, then it was rejected and I had to file amended again! That was in a June and sent certified. I have still not received any word or notification it was received and processed! I have tried desperately to reach the IRS and I do not know what I can do at this point. Any help or guidance would be so appreciated!

    Check the Automated Tracker Online
Before trying to call, check the official IRS Where's My Amended Return? tool. You will need your Taxpayer Identification Number (Social Security Number), date of birth, and ZIP code. If it has been scanned into their system, it will display one of three stages: Received, Adjusted, or Completed.

Call the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS)
If you cannot get through to the standard IRS phone lines and this delay is causing you financial hardship (such as a delayed refund you desperately need), you can bypass the main lines. Contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service, an independent organization within the IRS built to help taxpayers resolve ongoing issues.

Just an FYI. If a return is rejected, you do not use the amend option. You correct the original return and then resubmit it. Amended returns are only used after the original is accepted. This could cause an issue becuase if you truly filed an amended return the IRS has no original.

That’s a good point and I presume the OP erroneously used “amended” instead of “resubmitted” in the original post.

@Jqckmas2 should clarify that in a reply.

did you even receive confirmation that your original efiled return was accepted?

if not, did you ever mail the original tax return to the IRS?

if the answer to both are “no”, you can’t submit an amendment as there is no original on file.
