I wasn’t aware that if I was a being claimed as a dependent on someone else’s taxes and if I didn’t file taxes because I didn’t work in 2018 that I wasn’t supposed to fill out a stimulus return. When I did, it said I was independent even though I’m not, so I filed an amended return and sent it in to say I was dependent. Was that the right thing to do? I received the stimulus payment to my bank account now, but I’m not supposed to have one.

@Minilyn16  -- okay,  please tell me about what you status will be in 2020?

how old are you as of 12/31/2020 (i.e. what year were your born in) ?  are you in school full time? do you work full time? do you live on your own or with your parents?  who claimed you in 2019 (parents, someone else) ?

this may work out okay, but it depends on your answers.

I am 20 years old now and I am born in 2000. I am in school full-time. I live with my parent at home. In 2019, I’m supposed t be claimed by my parent, but she hasn’t filed yet. I was claimed on all her tax returns in prior years. Finally, in 2020 I’m supposed to be a dependent, but on my tax return it says I am single.
