Regarding SSN correction in W2

Filed Tax with right SSN and incorrect W2 form. The SSN in W2 form was wrong. After filing tax came to know about the mistake. Later asked the employer to give W2C form ( SSN corrected). Received W2-C and sent it to tax advocate. However, my tax advocate checked W2C form and said since right SSN is used to E file tax irrespective of SSN in W2  there may not be any issues. So I am confused. Can anyone please let me know how should I proceed.

Ok ... you can file using the W-2 with the wrong SS#  and you have nothing to amend when you get the W-2C.   Your employer has to send the corrected form to the SS admin who forwards that to the IRS.

Now it is up to the IRS to process the return ... they will probably hold the return until they can confirm your W-2 in the system.  So all you can do is wait patiently until they sort things out.

Thank you so much for the reply.

Will the employer update SS admin even if it is for his former intern ? . I do not work at that company any more. During my masters I did summer internship and now I filed tax for 2019 income.

The employer MUST make the corrections and issue you a corrected form and also send it to the SS administration. However, the information may take some time to be integrated into the systems hence the words of warning I gave you ... all you can do is wait it out.
