Question

refund status

I electronically filed my tax return on March 3.  As of this morning I am still getting the pending status at the IRS. I've tried numerous times to get through to speak to someone but always get the same recording "numerous calls try again later".  This is not only effecting my return but also the stimulus checks for my children.  I even got up early to try to get in the line to talk with someone at the IRS, didn't work.   I would think that if something was wrong with the return I would have received a notice by now.  Any help would be appreciated.

From this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

As of May 15, 2021, we had 300,000 individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of May 15, 2021, we had 16.4 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

I read all of this on the IRS website, but it is well over the 21 day period.   I realize that they have a back log but some sort of communication would be appreciated.  When they finally get around to checking the return and I have to amend that could possibly add another six weeks or more for processing.

The only feedback is if they put something the the refund status site.

Check your refund stratus here:

Amended returns are very backlogged and normally take about 4 months to process but are taking about double that currently.  (Closer to 6 months or more rather then 6 weeks.)
