IRS Notice CP5071

I received a letter from the IRS stating that I need to verify my identity for my 2025 tax return. The letter says that I will need the Control number that's in the letter and my Form 1040--series tax return for year 2025.

Reading some of the questions and answers on this forum, most say I'll also need my 2024 tax return. 'The IRS letter doesn't say anything about needing anything from my 2024 return. Do I need the 2024 tax return?

Will I need my drivers license and/or my passport to confirm my identify? What specific questions will I have to answer?

It would be good to have your 2024 return available as well as your drivers license and bank account information. Most often these are random checks so don’t stress.

Thanks. I didn't need any information from my 2024 return. I had to provide the total income amount. There were also questions about my refund. I was stressed and decided to do it on my own, rather than wait for my accountant to help me.

After answering the questions, the next screen is "Verification is Complete" and they have the necessary information to process the return.

I received an Email from Loogin.Gov stating that I connected my account to the IRS and, if I want I can disconnect it. I don't know what I did to connect it nor do I know what it means. Should I disconnect it?

Thanks for your help.

You can leave it connected.
