IRS delays
Is the IRS experiencing delays in accepting amended paper returns and payments? My check has not been cashed in more than 30 days.
The IRS quit processing mailed returns for some time. They have apparently just started back up again. In normal times it takes the IRS about 16 weeks to process an amended return. I have no idea when during that process they cash a check for payment. It will likely take them much longer than 16 weeks to process amended returns now. Make sure you keep enough funds in your account for the check to be cashed when they finally get around to it.
