How long after an amended return is processed before payment is released

It is taking the IRS 6 months or longer to process and issue a tax refund on an amended tax return.  A refund from an amended tax return is only sent by mail, it cannot be direct deposited.

As stated by the IRS, a refund from an amended tax return cannot be direct deposited.

Is direct deposit available for electronically filed Form 1040-X?

Direct deposits are not allowed at this time for Amended Returns.
