Filing an amended return

I’m working on an amended 2025 return. I received revised 1099s from stock brokerages that reclassified dividend income to capital gains due to a stock spinoff.  The final number on the federal return ( a refund ) did not change at all while the state return gained  a little more in my favor and i am planning to efile thte state .

If the final figure for my amended federal return did not change whatsoever,  am i required to send that to the irs?   I have  come across conflicting information on  this matter.

    2 POTENTIAL ISSUES

    1. Some states require filing an amended Federal amended return even if there are no changes. so we would neeed to know your state
    2. TurboTax does not provide for e-filing certain state return.

see this page towards the bottom

it is not necessary to file Federal because the amount of the refund / amount due did not change.

Many states begin their tax return with the Federal AGI (Line 11), since Line 11 is not changing it is unlikely that a federal amendment would be required to satisfy the State.

    What state?

CA uses Federal AGI Line 11; however, since your federal form line 11 is not changing, there is no CA requirement to amend the federal return.

Best to determine how the AGI could have possibly changed yet there was no change in the tax

Compare Lines 12-24 on the original and amended Form 1040

It is possible for the Refund not to change if they were already getting back all that they could.
