I have entered all my contributions.  When I  click 'done' it gives the me the total.  However, when I click continue the total is not transferred and it just says "available now."    What??

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:

    • Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
    • Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
    • Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
    • Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
    • Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.

Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

Are you sure these  steps are  for desktop download, Mac, Turbotax Premier?

I'm not following any of these steps.  Where is the Turbotax Menu? to sign out?

I saved my file, exited TT, cleared Safari cache, restarted. That did nothing to solve the problem

Where is the "red x" to allow TT pop ups - Safari? Mac? Turbotax?

    Very frustrating.

The previous instructions were for TurboTax Online. Try these instructions instead for your Mac download.

Since you are using TurboTax Premier for Mac (Desktop Download), the issue is likely a "permissions" or "file access" glitch where the software is showing you a preview but failing to write that data to your actual tax file.

Here is the correct path for a Mac user to fix this. Try each of these suggestions

    1. Give TurboTax "Full Disk Access"

This is the most common reason the Mac version "forgets" entries. macOS has high security that can prevent programs from saving changes to folders like Documents.

    1. Close TurboTax.
    2. Go to the Apple Menu (top left corner) > System Settings (or System Preferences).
    3. Go to Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
    4. Look for TurboTax 2025 in the list. If it’s there, make sure the switch is ON.
    5. If it’s not there, click the [+] button, go to your Applications folder, and add TurboTax.
    6. Restart TurboTax and try the entry again.

    2. "Save As" to Force a Refresh

    • Sometimes the current .tax2025 file gets a "read-only" bug.
    • In TurboTax, go to the top menu bar (next to the Apple icon).
    • Select File > Save As.
    • Give it a slightly different name (e.g., "TaxReturn_v2") and save it directly to your Desktop instead of a subfolder.
    • Try entering your contributions in this new file.

    3. Check for updates (crucial for 2026)

    • Since we are in January, Intuit releases patches almost daily to fix bugs exactly like "data not transferring."
    • In the top menu, click TurboTax (next to the Apple icon).
    • Select Check for Updates.
    • If it finds one, let it install and restart the program.

    4. Use "Forms Mode" to See What’s Happening

    1. If the "Step-by-Step" interview is stuck, you can look "under the hood" to see if the number is actually there.
    2. Click the Forms icon in the top right corner of your TurboTax window.
    3. In the list on the left, find the form related to your contribution (e.g., Form 8889 for HSA or the IRA Contribution Worksheet).
    4. If the number is there in the form but not showing in the interview, try typing the number directly into the blue field on the form.
    5. Click the step by step icon to get out of the forms mode.

Why you didn't see a "Red X": That only appears in web browsers like Safari or Chrome. In the Desktop version, there are no pop-up blockers because the program is running directly on your computer, not the internet.
