W-2 from the government with no wages.

Hello,

I take care of my mom and received a w-2 with no wages or income in box 1 and 2. However, box 3, 4, 5, and 6 are filled in with social security wages and medical wages and tax withheld. It asks that this must be manually mailed in and cannot be e-filed.

Some people say that I do not have to file it, while others say that i do. Not sure what to do, thank you.

If there is nothing in Box 1 of the W2, just delete it and you should be able to E-File your return.  This will not affect anything on your Tax Return.

See the TurboTax FAQ below for instructions on how to delete the W2: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4233656

Why was this w-2 sent to me if it did not need to get filed?

My guess is required reporting requirements on their end, showing the money was paid to you, but was not taxable income for you.

So even though boxes 4 and 6 shows the social security and medicare taxes were withheld, it is not counted as income? Thank you for the quick replies.

It is not counted as "taxable" income for you but was subject to social security and medicare taxes so that will go on your wage record with the SSA.
